Hammer Films: brand

Hammer Films Marque The legendary and much beloved UK horror film production company, Hammer Film Productions were looking for a brand refresh to bring them into the present. Hammer was founded in 1934 and peaked in popularity from the 50's to the 70's with lavish horror films starring memorable actors like Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.

Having always loved Hammer productions, I started enthusing: where are people going to see this brand? Where will it have the highest impact? The answer was at the movies. I designed the logotype to be a viewport into the film. Any film. A clip of any Hammer film, Sci-Fi, Horror or Vintage could be played within the frame of the logo and you would have consistency. I wanted Hammer to be seen as definitive, classic but also modern, an authority. I wished to create an ominous presence that befitted their cult status. I'm proud to have been involved.

Volvo & Channel4: 4Real

Branding, Consultancy.

Real Brand Marque International transportation brand Volvo approached us to create a content portal for the Channel4 web site. We were tasked with generating an idea that would suit the Volvo brand and feel natural seated within the Channel 4 website. This content would drive users to a Volvo microsite within the Channel 4 car section. We came up with the idea of 4Real.

Real was about the things that we can touch and feel. The things that are of true value, that enhance our quality of life. It also became an online magazine from Channel 4 sponsored by Volvo, covering style, adventure, travel, eating, art and events - all from a uniquely Real perspective.

4Real & Volvo Banners

We produced a great many, many banners for this project. Channel4 homepage banners, Volvo banners for the 4real site, and 4Real banners for other content areas of the Channel4 site. Here are a few of them:

468x60 Volvo Traffic Driver
224x600 Volvo Traffic Driver
468x60 4Real In-site Traffic Driver

Conran: Web

Design, Consultancy

Conran Brand Marque Iconic Design House - Conran. This is a good example of why expertise in web design is so important for companies to invest in, even when they know all about design. Previously the Conran web presence was meandering and unfocussed.

Conran design is beautiful. The company deserved a website that recreated the unique space and lightness that is felt in their real world locations. We implemented a grid system to create order and added some nifty XHTML tricks to produce an uncluttered site that focused on commercial goals but retained style and substance..

Conran: 50 Years in Design

To Years in Design

The Art Fund: Web, Microsite

Design, Consultancy

The Art Fund Brand Marque Challenges

The Art Fund save Art. Over 860,000 works of art have been kept for UK museums and galleries by this important company. There were challenges to bringing The Art Fund's work to life. The Art Fund wanted to launch a new site with a highly visible rebrand Although they had a wonderful library of images, these were hidden behind brochureware. Essentially they were a misunderstood organization. The brand itself was out of touch with the cooler elements of the modern art world.

Solutions

Bring the art to the front! After all, that's what the public are interested in. Make a smart focused web site that encourages involvement. Spend the homepage space wisely and most importantly, bring people in, get them inspired, get them exploring. Get them to interact.

The Art Fund: James Turrell Microsite

The Art Fund: James Turrell Microsite

Along with their rebrand, The Art Fund, also commissioned their first piece of public art from James Turrell, called the Deer Shelter at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. This was a big step for them. We helped them promote the opening of the work with a microsite that was heavily promoted on their own web site and in the media. The site included audio visual material and a contest to win a trip toYSP.
